For Your Next At-Home Date Night, Watch These 45 Netflix Romantic Films

Certain true-crime documentaries, guilty-pleasure reality shows like Love Is Blind or The Circle, or one of the most popular shows ever, Stranger Things, come to mind when you think of Netflix. With everything going on, it’s simple to forget about the numerous romantic Netflix movies. But there are a ton of swoon-worthy movies on the streaming service to pick from when the mood strikes and you’re searching for something to watch on your at-home date night.

The romantic comedies on Netflix are the greatest romantic films. With three-movie series including To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before and The Kissing Booth, the service is a pioneer in the rom-com franchise genre (and Tall Girl not far behind them with two). There are also many somber melodramas if you’re not in the mood to laugh, so there’s something for everyone. Then there are films that toe the line between two genres, fusing romance with something like sci-fi or fantasy. These are the ideal “Netflix” component of the well-known “Netflix and relax,” from classics you can’t stop watching to brand-new shows you haven’t had time to watch.

  1. When Harry Met Sally (1989)

As When Harry Met Sally demonstrated, not all romantic relationships proceed in a straight line. This classic romantic comedy explores what happens repeatedly when you run into the wrong person at the wrong moment.

2. A Perfect Pairing (2022)

He owns a sheep farm in Australia, and she works diligently as an executive for a wine company. She needs to show herself on the farm before she can snag a major customer. In essence, it is the plot of every Hallmark Christmas film, except the sweaters and plaid scarves.

3. To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before (2018)

Nothing compares to the awkward, uneasy, fresh flush of first love. Check out the Netflix original film (based on a young adult book series) about a high school student whose top five crushes accidentally get her secret love letters, which leads to a turbulent start to her dating life. You may see To All the Boys: A Love Story once you fall in love with Lara Jean. To All the Boys: Always and Forever, Lara Jean and P.S. I Still Love You are the third and fourth parts, respectively.

4. Silver Linings Playbook (2012)

It’s no surprise that movie garnered several Academy Award nominations when it was released in 2012 because of its star-studded cast and its tale of love in the face of tragedy. Only Jennifer Lawrence won the Best Actress prize; it was nominated for Best Picture, Best Director, Best Adapted Screenplay, Best Editing, Best Actor, Best Actress, Best Supporting Actor, and Best Supporting Actress.

5. Set It Up (2018)

The buildup to Set It Up is very brilliant: Two personal assistants to workaholic bosses reason that if their employers started dating, they would have more free time, so they try to construct a relationship using the resources they have available (personal calendars, etc.). But, wouldn’t you know it, the helpers also begin to develop feelings for one another. There are many attractive celebrities to admire in this movie since the employers are Lucy Liu and Taye Diggs and the helpers are the extra-charismatic Zoey Deutch and Glen Powell.

6. My Fair Lady (1964)

Whatever your opinion of My Fair Lady may be, songs like “I Could’ve Danced All Night” and “I’ve Grown Accustomed to Her Face” will undoubtedly make you want to swoon. The remaining timeless Lerner & Lowe songs are just a bonus!

7. Her (2013)

If just one half of the pair is shown on film, is it still considered a romance? Her, a film by Spike Jonze, centers on a guy (Joaquin Phoenix) who develops a romantic relationship with his talking computer (voiced by Scarlett Johansson). You’ll never view Siri in the same light once more.

8. You’ve Got Mail (1998)

In the romantic comedy You’ve Got Mail, Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan portray competing bookshop proprietors who fall in love online. The film was inspired by the classic screwball The Shop Around the Corner. The film has some of the enchantment of When Harry Met Sally since Nora Ephron and her sister Delia authored the screenplay.

9.Always Be My Maybe (2019)

This movie obviously leans toward the “rom-com” side of romance because it stars Ali Wong and Randall Park. They portray friends who were formerly classmates and later reconnected as adults, maybe reigniting their adolescent romance.

10. Our Souls at Night (2017)

Great romances don’t always begin with desire; perhaps, it’s about friendship. In this movie, Jane Fonda and Robert Redford play neighbors who begin sharing a bed – platonically — in order to avoid feeling lonely. But does anything more substantial emerge?
